It’s pretty much all change for Saint Lucia swimming, as the national federation got a new executive last week.

The Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association held its 25th Annual General Meeting at the Bay Gardens Hotel. The  membership elected a new executive to run the sport for the period 2015-2016.

Lance Arnold, who was elected to the presidency in 2013, stepped down, and former treasurer Carol Mangal has been chosen as the woman to lead swimming for the coming year. Mangal, a banker by profession, leads an almost all-new group.

But a familiar face does return to the executive, long-time former president David Peterkin taking over as vice president in charge of administration. At the same time, David’s son, Olympian Jamie Peterkin, was replaced as VP (technical) by Lily Bergasse.

Brender Portland-Reynolds has come aboard as secretary general, taking over from Joyce Huxley. Modulela Gerald is Mangal’s successor as treasurer. Sue Monplaisir assumes the public relations reigns from Dr Christopher Beaubrun.

The floor representatives are Jean Mederick and Henry Joseph, whilst Arnold will sit as immediate past president.

Among the immediate challenges for the new executive will be preparations for Saint Lucia’s defense of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States title, the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games Samoa 2015, and dialogue with the Government of Saint Lucia regarding the proposed National Aquatic Centre, soon to begin construction at Beausejour, Gros Islet.
