Three schools were forced to close its doors today, following a bush fire at the Vieux Fort Recreation Park this morning.
Reports are that the fire caused thick smoke to pollute the air, which forced the students and teachers to evacuate their school buildings.
Classes were cancelled at the Beanfield Secondary, Vieux Fort Primary and Vieux Fort Infant schools.
The infant school is currently housed at the primary and Vieux Fort Special Education school buildings.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service said persons were burning trimmed leaves and garbage on the field, which got out of control, which quickly spread to other areas.
Fire officials said it took over an hour to extinguish the blaze.
The park was being prepared for Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival 2015 activities.
There was another bush fire at Savannes Bay, Vieux Fort on Tuesday and another one on the Millennium Highway just last week.
Reports are that the Saint Lucia Fire Service has recorded more than 120 bush fires so far this year.
