St Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) on Thursday, March 6, 2014 presented Chief Education Officer Marcus Edward with a $15,000 cheque towards the sponsorship of this year’s National Schools Science and Technology Fair.
The Science Fair will be held from April 2-4, 2014 at the Derek Walcott Square under the theme, “Young Minds Working Together to Meet Global Needs Through Science and Technology.”
LUCELEC has been a long-time sponsor of the Science and Technology Fair, contributing $75,000 to the competition in the past six years alone. The support derives from recognising the importance of science and technology in developing the disciplines necessary to inculcate a culture of problem solving among young people.
In making the presentation to the Ministry of Education LUCELEC’s Corporate Communications Assistant Bernardia Regis reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of Science & Technology in St. Lucia.
“LUCELEC sees the Science Fair as an ideal platform for engaging the fertile imagination of our young people in applying science to solve some of St. Lucia’s challenges, and for engendering a practice of research, experimentation, analysis, and problem solving. We have had a long-term relationship with the Science Fair as a premier sponsor and we’re proud to continue that relationship through our support this year,” Regis explained.
Noted winners of past science fairs include Ravindra Mangar, who was Saint Lucia’s top performer in the 2013 CSEC exams, where he attained fifteen subject passes. He credited the National Schools Science and Technology Fairs, which he participated in consistently during primary and secondary school for stirring his passion for science and learning.
The cheque presentation was held at the Ministry of Education conference room.
