Nineteen-year-old Dwight George of La Clery, Castries, will be representing St Lucia at the Mr. Teen United Nations Pageant on July 6, 2014, slated to take place at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston, Jamaica.
George is among several representatives from various countries across the world, who will vie for the title of Mr. Teen of the United Nations, while enjoying the host country and sharing and showcasing each other’s cultures.
George told St Lucia News Online on Tuesday that he plans to make St Lucia proud. The former student of Vide Bouteille Secondary School said he has a passion for tourism, which developed during his school years.
George is currently studying Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management and plans to make a career in this field. He also plans to join forces with organisations here, to promote St Lucia, as a top tourism destination.
He believes while St Lucia remains one of the biggest tourism destinations in the Caribbean and has won many international accolades for its tourism package, many persons are not familiar with its culture.
He will be using his platform at the pageant to promote his homeland, to help people understand the unique culture of his beautiful country, according to him.
Besides his passion for tourism development, George said he would like to see government create equal access to services and opportunities for persons living with disabilities to be able to make an increased contribution to society.
His inspiration came mainly from his brother, who is differently-abled. He marvels at what his brother can achieve despite having one arm, he said.
George will be joining delegates from 10 countries, when Jamaica hosts the pageant.
The United Nations Pageant brings together representatives of a wide range of communities and cultures from all over the globe; especially from the world’s most culturally diverse states. Delegates share common values and foster international friendship and understanding.
The pageant’s principal objective is to identify and showcase the world’s best tourism/cause ambassadors; those who have the skills, talents and personalities best suited to promote their respective countries in furtherance of tourism, international goodwill and cultural harmony. Apart from a strong emphasis on goodwill/tourism protection programmes and destinations promotion, the pageant also supports environmental protection and social development.
