The Victoria Hospital, located in Castries will be hosting its first-ever awards ceremony on Saturday March 15, 2014, where they will be honouring current and former staff members for their dedicated service and commitment to the hospital goals and by extension the country’s health sector.
Executive Director Jeanette Hughes said the awards ceremony is part of the hospital’s staff development programme and is being done under the Independence Anniversary week of activities.
“It’s is geared towards showing appreciation to staff at the institution, particularly to those who have gone beyond the call of duty to deliver quality health service,” she added.
The hospital will also recognise the efforts and contribution of some retired staff members and others who have been with the institution for over 20 years.
The awards ceremony, she noted, is being done in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, with the support of the minister and the permanent secretary. These officials are expected to grace the occasion this Saturday.
“We recognise that this is the first time we are hosting an awards ceremony and we are very excited about it. In fact all of the staff at the hospital is excited to have this awards ceremony going, because we are really going to highlight our staff and what they’ve been doing,” Hughes stated.
Each department has a work plan to achieve and therefore they will also be judged. One department will walk away with an award for their work plan.
The executive director explained that the reason for highlighting departments is mainly due to many challenges they face, which is based on a numbers of factors; including lack of resources, among other things.
It will be dedicated to the department that has persevered despite these challenges and has made a difference not only in the lives of patients, but the hospital as a whole.
Awards will be handed out to persons in various categories including: best team player, rookie of the year, best heads of department, best manager of the year, long service awards to doctors and junior doctor of the year. A special award will be dedicated to the department of the year.
